Woman Says Abusive Cops Caused Miscarriage

CHICAGO (CN) – Police in suburban Chicago manhandled a woman so badly she miscarried her 5-month-old fetus, she claims in court.
Cassandra Edick sued the Villages of Franklin Park and River Grove and six police officers, in Cook County Court. Both are southwest suburbs of Chicago.
Edick apparently was driving when she was stopped, but the complaint does not state why she was stopped.
Edick claims that “on May 5, 2012, defendants Robert Wright, Todd Morin, and Robert Diviacchi inflicted physical harm upon Cassandra Edick, including the use of excess force in pulling her arms behind her back and pushing her abdomen against the trunk of a vehicle, while Cassandra Edick was lawfully present at or near the intersection of Grand Avenue and Scott Street, Village of Franklin Park, County of Cook, State of Illinois.”
Defendants River Grove Officers Anthony Ikis, Robert Conway and Colin Reid assisted the Franklin Park officers in their use of excessive force, Edick claims.
She claims the officers “voluntarily, purposefully, intentionally and without justification pulled Cassandra Edick out of her vehicle, held her arms behind her back and pushed her against the trunk of the vehicle, in disregard for Cassandra Edick’s safety and in violation of department rules, orders and standards.”
As a result, she says she “sustained serious and permanent injuries, which ultimately resulted in cervical strain, bilateral arm contusions, and intrauterine fetal demise of her approximately twenty week old fetus on May 5, 2012.”
Edick seeks damages for willful and wanton conduct.
She is represented by Melissa McCracken with Kralovec, Jambois & Schwartz.
