Woman Gets 20 Years for Sex Slavery

ST. LOUIS (CN) - A woman who forced a mentally disabled woman into sex slavery was sentenced to 20 years in federal prison. Waquita Wallace, 34, and her sister April Chaney talked the 18-year-old woman into moving in with them in June 2008 so they could care for her.

Wallace and Chaney took the woman's disability check and forced her to work as a prostitute to pay off a drug debt. Prosecutors say Wallace constantly threatened, beat, burned, tortured and humiliated the woman.

Wallace pleaded guilty in April to forcing the woman to engage in commercial sex acts through a combination of threats, fraud, intimidation and physical coercion.

Chaney pleaded guilty to related charges and was sentenced in December to 5 years in prison.
