Woman Blames Church for Gang Beating

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (CN) - A woman claims she was beaten by a gang of juveniles who escaped from the Catholic Children's Home in Alton, Ill. She sued the Roman Catholic Diocese of Springfield in Madison County Court.

Christina Geisen she was attacked on Nov. 24, 2009 as she tried to enter her home. Her brief complaint charges the Diocese with negligence, for failing to control and supervise its residents; failing to secure the home; allowing people with dangerous propensities to leave the home without safeguards; and failing to protect the community from the juveniles it housed.

The complaint offers no motive for the attack. Geisen seeks damages for injuries to her head, neck and face, and emotional distress. She is represented by John English of Kassly with Bone & English of Belleville.
