Wisconsin Court Of Appeals

PUBLIC RECORD - A Wisconsin man claimed that Dane County unlawfully deleted virtually all emails that existed before June 2002. He filed a complaint under public records law to search all back-up tapes, computers and mailboxes that contained deleted emails. The appellate court found that his request was properly denied because the public records law addresses the duty to disclose records, but not to address the duty to keep records. Affirmed. Gehl v.
