Wisc. Teen to Stand Trial|for Stabbing Classmate

WAUKESHA, Wis. (CN) - A teenage girl charged with stabbing a classmate to please an online fictional character is now competent to stand trial, according to a physician.

Geyser's attorney, Anthony Cotton, requested more time to review the doctor's report before the court makes a ruling on his client's competency. A hearing to determine her competency is scheduled for Tuesday, according to court records.

Local news outlets report that the doctor testified today in the trial of Morgan Geyser who, along with another 12-year-old girl, allegedly stabbed their classmate 19 times in order to impress an online "bogeyman" called Slenderman.

The alleged victim survived the stabbing, and the alleged assailants were charged as adults with felony attempted intentional homicide. Geyser is alleged to have been the ringleader of the assault.

Geyser, who is now 13, was ruled incompetent by two experts in August but "likely to become competent," according to court records.

The other alleged assailant, Annisa Weier, was found competent in October. Her lawyers plan to dispute that finding at a December hearing, according to local news reports.

Geyser is currently being held at the Winnebago Mental Health Institute.
