WASHINGTON (CN) - To speed the process of giving cell phone customers the coverage they want, wireless service providers have asked to mount antennas on Federal Aviation Administration towers.
The FAA has allowed providers using certain radio frequencies to put their antennas on the towers. But, those using the 21.2-23.6 GHz bands are out of luck, since those frequencies are similar enough to air traffic control transmissions to cause interference, says a newly amended policy. The 21.2-23.6 GHz bands are for Fixed Microwave Service, which can be used as a backbone for wireless service. Click here for details and other new regulations.
