Windex Label Is ‘Greenwash,’ Class Claims

MILWAUKEE (CN) - The maker of Windex deceptively labels it with a "Greenlist" logo that touts its "environmentally responsible ingredients," a class action claims in Federal Court. Plaintiffs say SC Johnson & Son, which makes Windex, made up the "Greenlist" itself, and the product is not friendly at all, but contains a chemical that could kill children or animals if they drink it.

Plaintiffs say Windex contains ethyl glycol n-hexyl ether, which is particularly dangerous to little kids and animals because it's sweet.

"The type of deception engaged in by defendant here is become so rampant that the term 'Greenwash' has been coined to describe this type of conduct," the complaint states.

Plaintiffs demand more than $5 million, disgorgement of unjust profits, and an injunction. They are represented by Michael Reese with Reese Richman of New York.
