William Safire Dies at 79

(CN) - William Safire, a speechwriter for President Richard Nixon and longtime New York Times columnist, died of pancreatic cancer Sunday at 79. For Nixon's Vice President Spiro Agnew, Safire wrote the line denouncing media critics of the Vietnam War as "nattering nabobs of negativism."
