SAN JOSE (CN) - A hospital foundation financially abused a widow by stopping her $108,000 annuity payments after her husband died, the 86-year-old woman claims in court.
Sandra Carbone sued the O'Connor Hospital Foundation on June 15 in Santa Clara County Court.
Carbone and her late husband Eugene Carbone in 2000 donated four pieces of real estate valued at $1,225,000, with the agreement the that the O'Connor Foundation would give them $108,696 every year "for the rest of her natural life," she says in the complaint.
But the foundation has refused to make any payments since July 1, 2011, the widow says.
The O'Connor Hospital Foundation describes itself on its website as a nonprofit that "works to increase community awareness of healthcare services for the sick and the poor." It was founded in 1983.
Carbone seeks compensatory and exemplary damages.
She is represented by Ryan Ramseyer. Neither he nor the O'Connor Hospital Foundation could immediately be reached for comment.
