INDEPENDENCE, Mo. (CN) - A woman sued her church for her husband's death, claiming he died after being struck in the head by a windowless door that young church members "judo-kicked" or "body slammed" open for fun after the Wednesday night service.
Violet Davidson sued the Crown Pointe Church of the Assemblies of God of Lee's Summit and Jadon Roberts, the boy, or one of the boys that she claims was judo kicking the door.
Davidson says church members customarily met to socialize in the church gym after Wednesday night services. She says young church members, including Roberts, had been judo kicking the bars of a gym door that night to make it slam open, and had not stopped despite church members' and parents' demands. And she says the door was not marked outside with an Exit Only sign.
As her husband approached the door from outside to pick up his daughter, Roberts kicked it open, striking her husband and knocking him down, the widow says. Her husband, William Davidson, died the next day.
She demands damages for negligence and premises liability. She is represented in Jackson County Court by R. Denise Henning of Kansas City, Mo.
