Why Arrest Me? Woman Asks Jet Blue

LAS VEGAS (CN) - Jet Blue arrested a passenger and held her for hours because she took a video during a flight, the woman claims in Federal Court. Marilyn Parver says she showed Jet Blue workers that the film "did not contain any view of the equipment, security or control features of the aircraft" and that the workers agreed "that the video was appropriate, did not show any faces of the individuals involved, and did not affect [the] airline, aircraft or any other aspect of safety," but Jet Blue had her arrested anyway, on false charges.

Parver says she was flying from New York to Las Vegas on July 26, 2008 when she recorded a video on her portable video camera. She claims that though the film "did not contain any view of the equipment, security or control features of the aircraft," a flight attendant "harassed and threatened" her and tried to force her to delete the video. The attendant told her that "Jet Blue [was] concerned the video might end up on You Tube," Parver says.

Parver says she gave the flight attendant and others "several opportunities" to view the video, and that each acknowledged "that the video was appropriate, did not show any faces of the individuals involved, and did not affect [the] airline, aircraft or any other aspect of safety."

Parver refused to delete it.

She claims that the plane's captain contacted the Transportation Security Administration and Las Vegas Metro Police before the plane arrived, and "knowingly and falsely reported that Parver was intoxicated and had taken 'suspicious photos' of the airplane's cockpit, all in an effort to secure Parver's unlawful detention, arrest and imprisonment for nothing more than her refusal to delete the video."

Parver says police met her when the plane landed, arrested her and held her at a police station for several hours.

She claims that she made the video for her own use "and she is, as admitted by all defendants, entitled to make and have such a video."

She seeks damages for negligence, false imprisonment and constitutional violations.

She is represented by C. Bryan Cantrell with Cantrell, Ray & Barcus.
