Whole Foods Markets|Must Pay $800,000

LOS ANGELES (CN) – Whole Foods Markets will pay $800,000 to settle allegations it overcharged California customers, the L.A. City Attorney’s Office said.
A yearlong state investigation found that the chain store was not deducting the weight of containers for self-serve items, had its thumb on the scale in some items sold by the pound, and sold some deli foods by piece instead of per pound, which is required by state law.
Whole Foods settled Tuesday with the cities of Los Angeles, San Diego and Santa Monica. All 74 Whole Foods Markets in the state will have to abide by the terms of the settlement, which requires it to hire employees to monitor pricing accuracy and conduct random price audits.
