What a Great Idea:|Guns and Alcohol

AUSTIN, Texas (CN) - The Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission is considering a proposal to allow alcohol sales at gun shows, so long as there's no live ammunition and the buyers get their guns outside the building, the commission said Friday.

The TABC told The Associated Press that it is considering the proposal, made by a Fort Worth gun club the TABC would not identify.

The proposal would prohibit people from taking possession of their guns inside the building where the gun show is happening. The guns sold during happy hour would have to be disabled and "not readily convertible for use," the Austin American-Statesman reported.

The TABC must allow a 30-day public comment period before it enacts the rule.

The TABC will hold a public hearing on the rule change on Aug. 19.
