‘Welcome to Nursing’

MIAMI (CN) - A "serial sex offender" physician assistant groped a drugged patient in her hospital bed, ejaculated on her face and then said, "Welcome to nursing," the woman claims in court.

Jemeena Grimes sued Tenet Healthsystem North Shore and David Allen Wand, in Miami-Dade County Circuit Court.

Wand, 59, "is a serial sex offender who sexually assaulted at least three women at North Shore Hospital while serving as a physician assistant," according to the complaint.

Grimes claims she went to the North Shore Medical Center with stomach pains and vomiting, and was scheduled to have an MRI after visiting with a doctor.

She suffered from a panic attack just before the scan, and was sent back to her room at the hospital and given Dilaudid, a narcotic pain reliever, according to the complaint.

She says she fell asleep, and "awoke in her hospital bed and observed the curtain around her bed closed. David Wand was alone on the left side of her bed with his penis exposed close to her face."

The complaint continues: "David Wand then began to touch Jemeena Grimes' stomach, breasts, while asking if she hurt anywhere. David Wand penetrated Jemeena Grimes' vagina with his fingers and masturbated himself with his other hand. David Wand committed these heinous acts without the consent of Jemeena Grimes. David Wand ejaculated on Jemeena Grimes' face, arm, and bed sheets. He then wiped his hand on a hand towel that was located at the bottom of the hospital bed. David Wand then threw the towel on the side table of the room and said 'Welcome to nursing,' prior to leaving the room. While the assault was ongoing, Jemeena Grimes was still under the influence of Dilaudid and frozen in disbelief and fear."

Grimes claims police found Wand's semen on the hospital bed, bed sheet and hand towel, and says he admitted having sexual contact with her.

She seeks damages for negligent supervision and retention and sexual battery.

She also sued the doctor under whom Wand worked.

She is represented by Jeffrey Herman of Boca Raton.
