Weight-Loss Marketer to Pay $2M for False Claims

(CN) - A federal judge in Connecticut has ordered Bronson Partners and Martin Howard to pay nearly $2 million for falsely claiming that consumers could drop 25 pounds a month with the Chinese Diet Tea and the Bio-Slim Patch.

U.S. District Judge Stefan R. Underhill granted the Federal Trade Commission's request for a permanent injunction barring Bronson and Howard from selling or advertising any weight-loss products, saying "the harm to consumers in search of miracle weight-loss products is certain and serious."

Judge Underhill expressed concern that Howard's current beauty-product business, Blue Hill Naturals, would engage in the same false advertising if he did not impose the ban.
