Washington Says Lenders Targeted Black Homeowners In Scam

WASHINGTON (CN) - Metropolitan Money Store and Fordham and Fordham Investment Group targeted black homeowners in a foreclosure-rescue scam, the District of Columbia claims in Superior Court. The District claims the defendants defrauded more than 25 homebuyers by stripping them of equity - "in many cases more than $100,000 in equity." Defendant Joy Jackson a director of Metropolitan and of Fordham and Fordham, is married to defendant Kurt Fordham, president of Fordham & Fordham. Fordham and Fordham promised to "assist ... consumers with credit rebuilding and coaching," the District claims. Also sued are Jennifer McCall, a director of Metropolitan; Cornerstone First Financial and its founder Mark Livingstone; Sussex Title and its director Alexander Chaudhry; RTE Title & Escrow and its director Valery Tomlin, an attorney; and
