BRONX (CN) - The family of the temporary worker who was trampled to death by sale-crazed Wal-Mart customers the day after Thanksgiving has sued the retailer and the Green Acres Mall for wrongful death. Jdimytai Damour, 34, was crushed to death around 5 a.m. when shoppers broke through a Wal-Mart door in Valley Stream on "Black Friday."
Damour's estate sued Wal-Mart Stores, Green Acres Mall, Vornado Realty Trust, and Securitas Security Services. The family claims Wal-Mart lured customers to the store with promises of bargains, and failed to provide adequate security.
Damour had been on the job for about a week when he was killed.
The day after Thanksgiving is called Black Friday because retailers customarily expect to go into the black for the year on that day, the start of the Christmas shopping season.
Damour's family is represented in Bronx County Court by Jordan Hecht with Hecht, Kleeger & Pintel of Manhattan.
