Voluntary manslaughter

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Matthew Chavez, convicted of murdering Army veteran Tyler Lackey during an attempted ATM robbery, is entitled to a new trial, the New Mexico Court of Appeals ruled. Chavez claims he acted in self-defense when Lackey drew his own gun, and the court agrees the state law required the jury to be instructed on voluntary manslaughter.
