Virginia Prisoner Demands Sermon

NORFOLK, Va. (CN) - A state prison inmate sued his warden and Virginia over a policy that allows him to buy music CDs inside, but not a CD of a religious sermon. Kyle Mabe claims the policy is unconstitutional.

In his federal complaint, Mabe says he asked to buy a Christian sermon available only in CD from, known as "Life Without Cause." He says the Virginia Department of Corrections responded with a note stating, "all inmates are only allowed to order music CDs. No books, sermons etc. are allowed only music CDs may be purchased."

Mabe says the Virginia Department of Corrections policy violates the state and federal constitutions.

He is represented by Steve Taylor of Chesapeake, Va.
