DALLAS (CN) - A professional video game player has sued his sponsor, saying he got its $10,000 advance but it has not paid him royalties on sales of products that use his name, likeness and intellectual property. Rafik Bryant, 26, sued Able Planet in Dallas County Court.
Bryant claims that in their 2007 sponsorship agreement, Able Planet agreed to pay him $10,000 "up front," and more money for each gaming product it sold using his endorsement. Bryant says Able Plant has not paid him any per-unit compensation.
"Able Planet subsequently sought to renegotiate the terms and conditions of the sponsorship agreement," the complaint states. "When no agreement was reached, Able Planet attempted to unilaterally terminate the sponsorship agreement."
Bryant says the company continues to use his name, likeness and intellectual property in selling and marketing its products.
Bryant, aka "LoSt-CaUzE," was the North American winner of the 2008 NVision Unreal Tournament 3 tournament, hosted by NVidia. He has competed in several professional gaming organizations, including the World Series of Video Games and the World Cyber Games.
He seeks damages for breach of contract, fraud, fraudulent inducement and negligent misrepresentation. He is represented by Marlon Frazier of Richardson.
