LOS ANGELES (CN) - Van's International Food touts its frozen waffles as organic, "all natural" and healthy, when the actual nutritional content paints a more fattening picture, a class claims in Federal Court. In some cases, the plaintiffs say, discrepancies between printed and actual nutritional value varied by 100 percent or more.
Through reverse engineering, researcher Lisa Goldstein "determined that the nutritional information provided on the packaging of Van's products, including the label, contained numerous substantial inaccuracies," the lawsuit claims.
For example, the lawsuit claims Van's "Belgian Original" waffles list 2.5 grams of fat, when they actually have 12 grams.
Plaintiffs are also suing Whole Foods, Trader Joe's Co. and Costco, claiming they sold Van's inaccurately labeled waffles.
They seek an injunction and damages for the alleged false advertising and unfair business practices.
