WASHINGTON (CN) - The Department of Veterans Affairs plans to require the VA to pay for emergency medical services of eligible veterans at non-VA facilities.
The department also plans to require the VA to also pay for further care when a veteran requires continued, non-emergent treatment after the veteran's medical condition is stabilized. Until recently this expense was not reimbursed for treatment provided after the veteran would have been able to be transferred safely to a VA or other federal facility. If such a facility could not accept the transfer immediately, the VA would not pay for services after the veteran was stable.
The agency also plans to expand the circumstances under which payment for the treatment is authorized.
