VA Doc’s Affair Led To 2 Deaths, Family Says

TAMPA (CN) - A doctor at the Veterans Affairs hospital in Sarasota had a sexual affair with a nurse who was married to one of his patients, and when the man told the doctor he suspected his wife was cheating on him, Dr. James Thomas Marron prescribed narcotics and "strong, psychotropic medications" for him "and eventually had Michael A. Hall hospitalized for his 'paranoia' about this affair," Hall's children claim in Federal Court. When Hall finally learned the truth, he shot his wife to death and killed himself, his children say.

The survivors say, "other employees, agents, managers and/or supervisors at the Department of Veterans Affairs and the Sarasota Veterans Administration CBOC Primary Care Clinic became aware of the affair between Renee Hall and Dr. Marron, but continued to employ Marron and Hall ... (and) continued to allow Marron to provide treatment and to prescribe narcotic medications to Michael A. Hall ... (and) failed to take any corrective action. ...

"Eventually, Michael A. Hall discovered that his suspicions were correct and that his wife was actually having an affair, and that the affair was with Dr. Marron. After this discovery, in a fit of rage, Michael A. Hall shot and killed Renee Hall and then committed suicide. Michael A. Hall left behind a suicide note in which he explained that Dr. Marron's unethical actions of having an affair with his wife, then trying to convince Michael A. Hall that the affair was a figment of his imagination, was the cause of his suicide."

Hall's four children, one "purported daughter," and his parents are represented by Kendall Almerico of Tampa.
