USA Is Ruining Protected Desert, Group Says

PHOENIX (CN) - The Bureau of Land Management illegally allows livestock grazing on the Sonoran Desert National Monument, ruining the desert soil, plants, wildlife and historical resources on the 496,000 federally protected acres, the Western Watersheds Project claims in Federal Court.

Plaintiff claims the BLM illegally renewed 10-year grazing permits despite scientific evidence that the grazing is damaging the soil and plants, reducing plant diversity, and introducing non-native plants.Plaintiff is represented by Erik Ryberg of Tucson and Lauren Rule of Boise.
