UPS to pay $74M

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A Missouri appeals court upheld a $74 million judgment against UPS after one of its drivers missed a stop sign, causing an accident that resulted in a brain injury to an expecting mother’s two-month-old fetus. The child was born seven months later with severe neurological disabilities. UPS challenged evidence of the driver’s prior cocaine use, but this evidence was relevant and the jury seemed not to believe drug use was a factor anyway.
