UNUM Fined $5.5 Million In ERISA Case

SAN DIEGO (CN) - UNUM Group insurance was fined $5.5 million for hiding millions of dollars in fees it secretly paid to an insurance broker, which resulted in policyholders paying millions of dollars more in premiums. "The San Diego broker secretly charged the insured millions of dollars in higher premiums based upon the undisclosed special fees," the U.S. Attorney's Office said. Prosecutors did not identify the broker.
