LAS VEGAS (CN) - Today's lesson: Don't mess with University of Nevada, Las Vegas' star athletes. Megan Krainski says university officials tipped off her roommate, long jumper Kenya Polee, that she planned to file a complaint against Polee for "ongoing harassment and threatening behavior." Polee then fabricated a story that Krainski came after her with a pair of scissors, and without an investigation, and before Krainski could file her harassment complaint, police carted Krainski off to jail and charged her with assault with a deadly weapon, according to her federal lawsuit.
"Defendants have taken said actions against plaintiff in retaliation for her making a complaint against a star athlete, and further retaliating against her for asserting her rights," the complaint states.
Although exonerated in court for lack of evidence, the university charged Krainski with violating the university's Student Conduct Code, though it never conducted a formal hearing, the lawsuit states.
Krainski's appeal was ignored, and the incident remains on her permanent record, according to the complaint.
She seeks $75,000 in compensatory damages, and another $75,000 in punitive damages. She is represented by Jason Bach.
