‘Unknown’ Says Coldplay Swiped His Tunes

LOS ANGELES (CN) - A man who describes himself as "a well talented, but unknown music and song writer" claims the band Coldplay stole three of his songs.

In a pro se complaint in Superior Court, Sammie Lee Smith claims he gave a friend copies of his songs, "Yellow," "Trouble" and "Clocks," three titles Coldplay also uses, and that the band's songs are identical to his own.

"Yellow" and "Trouble" appear on Coldplay's debut album, while "Clocks," from their second album, won the band a Grammy for Record of the Year.

Smith says he gave the songs to Benjamin Nguyen, a co-worker, but does not say how the band could have acquired the music.
