Unions Sue Railroad over Workers Comp

PHILADELPHIA (CN) - Six labor unions claim the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA), an interstate railroad, violated federal law by removing workers from workmen's comp protection under the Federal Employers' Liability Act, and subjecting them to Pennsylvania law.

The plaintiffs are the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen, the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, the United Transportation Union, the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, the Sheet Metal Workers International Association, and the Transportation Communications International Union.

The unions' lead counsel in Federal Court is Michael Wolly with Zwerdling, Paul & Kahn of Washington, D.C.
