Unions, Chamber, Sue Illinois Governor

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (CN) - The Chamber of Commerce and labor unions challenged Gov. Rod Blagojevich's plan to move 140 state Department of Transportation jobs from Springfield to Harrisburg. The plaintiffs say the jobs can't be moved because Attorney General Lisa Madigan has not signed off on a purchase to buy the building that would house the employees.

The groups sued after Blagojevich announced he would make the move even though the Commission on Government Forecasting and Accountability voted unanimously against the relocation.

The Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce, Teamsters Local 916, AFSCME Council 31, the Capital Area Association of Realtors and four individuals sued in Sangamon County Court.

The plaintiffs are represented by Donald Craven.

CNS reporter Karen Martin contributed to this story.
