Unemployment Moving Up

National unemployment rates climbed to 6% in July, up from 4.6% a year earlier. During this time, the number of metropolitan areas with at least 7% unemployment more than tripled. California, at 7.6% in July, continued to have a higher unemployment rate than the national average, and Michigan had the nation's highest unemployment rate of 9.1%.
