Uncle Sam Whacks St. Louis Drugmaker

ST. LOUIS (CN) - Federal prosecutors want Care-Tech Laboratories enjoined from making adulterated over-the-counter drugs. Prosecutors claim Care-Tech and its owners John and Sherry Brereton have ignored warnings and critical inspection reports from the Food and Drug Administration dating back to 2000.

The FDA repeatedly dinged Care-Tech for selling products that were more or less potent than advertised and for failing to sterilize equipment. Many of the problems from a 2009 inspection are the same as, or similar to, problems the FDA reported in 2000, 2003, 2005 and 2008, according to the complaint.

Prosecutors say Care-Tech did not properly test products and sold unapproved products, including Barri-care, Care-Creme, Formula Magic, Humatrix, Loving Lotion, Techni-Care, Tech 2000 and Urban Skin. The United States wants the company enjoined from selling its microbial products until it adheres to FDA practices
