U.S. Unemployment Claims Take a Tumble

(CN) - The number of Americans seeking unemployment benefits fell to a four-decade low last week, dropping to a level not seen since Nov. 1973.

Weekly applications for unemployment benefits dropped to a seasonally-adjusted 247,000, the Labor Department announced Thursday.

The four-week average dropped 4,500 to 260,500.

The total number of people now receiving unemployment benefits is now 2.14 million.
