WASHINGTON (CN) - The Fish and Wildlife Service has issued proposed changes in the designation of critical habitat for the northern spotted owl under the Endangered Species Act, and reopened public comment.
The proposal uses the same general objectives as earlier plans, but provides a "more efficient strategy" for attaining the objectives, according to the FWS, by combining former multiple blocks into larger units.
The measure is criticized for ignoring the owl's need for old growth forest habitat.
Comments are due by June 20.
