WASHINGTON (CN) - President Barack Obama has created an interagency working group to develop policies to combat the persistence of HIV infection, domestic violence and health disparities among women and girls.
In a memorandum to the heads of all executive agencies, Obama noted that women and girls now account for 24 percent of all HIV diagnoses in the United States.
The working group is charged with providing the president with recommendations to update HIV/AIDS policies and formulate policy in increasing awareness of the disproportionate health risks women and girls face.
The White House Advisor on Violence Against Women and the Director of the Office of National AIDS Policy will serve as co-chairs of the working group which will include representatives from most cabinet level departments.
