U.S. Exposes Public To Mad Cow Disease|From ‘Downed Cattle,’ Humane Society Says

WASHINGTON (CN) - U.S. Department of Agriculture Ed Schafer endangers public health by refusing to prohibit "downed" cattle, which are too sick to stand, from being slaughtered for human consumption, the Humane Society claims in Federal Court.

It claims that despite the USDA's years-long claims that it excludes downed cattle from the human food supply, the USDA regulation actually "allows some downed cattle to enter the food supply."
