U.S. Employers Added |156K Jobs in September

(CN) - Employers added 156,000 jobs in September, but the unemployment rate went up slightly as more people re-entered what they now see as a decent job market.

The Commerce Department's Bureau of Labor Statistics said Friday the national unemployment rate now stands at 5 percent, up from 4.9 percent in August.

While the number of jobs added to the economy has slowed significantly from last year's average monthly pace of 229,000, the slowdown was expected as the number of available unemployed workers declined.
