WASHINGTON (CN) - U.S. Customs and Border Protection has made its Global Entry expedited border crossing program permanent, according to new rules adopted by the agency.
Global Entry allows pre-screened, low-risk citizens of the U.S. and the Netherlands to enter the U. S. using automated kiosks. Until now, Global Entry was considered a pilot program available at just 20 U.S. airports.
The new rules expand eligibility for the program to Mexican nationals and children under the age of 14.
The USCPB says it expects that all major international airports in the U.S. will be added to the program. In addition, the new rules provide the means for expanding the program to other nations.
The rules are effective March 7.
