Two New Judges|in the Bay Area

SACRAMENTO (CN) - Gov. Jerry Brown on Wednesday appointed two new Bay Area Superior Court judges: Terri Mockler in Contra Costa County and Charles Smiley III in Alameda County.

Mockler, 54, of Martinez, has been an assistant public defender in Contra Costa County for three years. She was a deputy public defender in Solano County from 1985 to 2009.

Smiley, 44, of Oakland, has been a court commissioner since 2007 for Alameda County Superior Court. He also served as a deputy public defender in his home county for 10 years and was an associate adjunct professor at the University of California, Hastings College of Law from 2004 to 2007.

Both new judges graduated from U.C. Berkeley's Hastings College of Law and are filling seats left vacant by retiring judges.
