Trump Raises $51M in June Fundraising Push

(CN) - Embarassed by his campaign finance filing for May, Donald Trump said he rebounded mightily in June, raising $51 million in mostly small donations.

While he did do better than last time in his latest filing, his totals were still far behind Clinton's for the month.

Clinton raised almost $70 million in June for her campaign and Democratic allies, her campaign announced last week.

Politicals analysts say that trend is likely to continue because Clinton has spent tens of millions of dollars more than Trump to build up her grassroots organization ahead of the November election.

Trump previewed his June numbers on Twitter Tuesday night by writing, "Raised a lot of money for the Republican Party. There will be a big gasp when the figures are announced in the morning. Lots of support! Win."

In a written statement from the Trump campaign, Steven Mnuchin, the candidate's finance chairman, said "We just started our fundraising efforts in the last week of May and we are extremely pleased with the broad-based support in the last five weeks for the Trump Campaign and Trump Victory.

"We want to thank our many volunteers and contributors that are committed to electing Donald J. Trump as President in November," Mnuchin said.

According to the Trump campaign, its newly established digital and small dollar operation rolled out fundraising emails which resulted in over $26 million dollars in donations for June ($19.9 million DJTFP efforts, and $6.6 million through TMAGA).

"This was made possible with over 400,000 supporters, with 94% of our supporters giving under $200," the campaign said. "The first email solicitation, which contained an unprecedented $2 million match from Donald J. Trump, exceeded our goal, collecting over $3 million in contributions in one day."

Trump personally contributed $3.8 million to the campaign in June which brings his total contributions to $55 million.
