Truckers to Keep Medical Certificate With Them

WASHINGTON (CN) - Commercial interstate drivers must continue to keep a paper copy of their medical examiner's certificate with them until Jan. 30, 2014, under a newly proposed Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration rule.

The interstate motor carriers that employ the drivers also would have to keep a copy of the document in their files.

This action is to ensure the medical qualification of commercial driver's license holders until all states are able to post the medical self-certification and medical examiner's certificate data on the Commercial Driver's License Information System driver record.
