WASHINGTON (CN) - President Obama has extended for one year Executive Order 13413, which declared a national emergency regarding the situation in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and blocks the property of certain businesses and individuals contributing to the conflict.
The President took this action to deal with the threat to the foreign policy of the United States constituted by the civil war in Congo, a conflict marked by widespread violence and atrocities that continue to threaten regional stability.
