Tribe Wants Counselor’s Book Destroyed

MIAMI (CN) - The Miccosukee Tribe sued a former counselor in the tribal Health Department to stop distribution of a book in which she wrote a chapter on "Therapist Preparation for Group Counseling of the Native American." The tribe says Lidia Puricelli breached contract and violated privacy, and demands that Taylor & Francis Group dba The Haworth Press stop distributing the book and deliver it up for destruction.

Haworth hired Puricelli to write chapter 39 of its book, "101 Interventions in Group Therapy," and Routledge released the book on March 26, the complaint states. Routledge is a member of the Taylor & Francis Group.

"Haworth never contacted the Tribe or any of its representatives at any time before or after March 26, 2008 to verify Puricelli had permission to disclose the Tribe's confidential health department policies and procedures," the complaint states in Miami-Dade County Court.

The tribe is represented by Guy Lewis and Dexter Lehtinen.
