Tribal Recognition

The Mishewal Wappo Tribe of Alexander Valley claims Interior Secretary Ken Salazar unfairly refuses to grant it tribal status, in San Jose Federal Court. The tribe was recognized from 1851 until it was terminated in 1959; it was allotted 54 acres in 1908 and 1913.
