The 7th Circuit upheld a $140 million compensatory-damages award granted to health care software company Epic Systems in its suit against Tata Consultancy services for unlawfully accessing and using confidential information and trade secrets. However, the court also found the $280 million punitive damages award was constitutionally excessive.

CHICAGO — The Seventh Circuit upheld a $140 million compensatory damages award to health care software company Epic Systems in its suit against Tata Consultancy services for unlawfully accessing and using confidential information and trade secrets. But the court also found the $280 million punitive damages award was constitutionally excessive.
