TracksDiablo-CM

Mt. Diablo beckons in the distance from train tracks along the Carquinez Strait in Port Costa, California. Part of the tidal estuary of the San Joaquin and Sacramento rivers as they drain into San Francisco Bay, the strait serves as border between Solano and Contra Costa counties. Founded in 1879, Port Costa was a landing point for a ferry owned and operated by the Central Pacific Railroad. The ferry carried entire trains across the strait from Benicia that continued on to the Oakland Long Wharf, terminus of the First Transcontinental Railroad. (Courthouse News photo / Chris Marshall)
