Toxic site cleanup costs

SAN FRANCISCO — The Ninth Circuit found in favor of the United States in its request to require oil companies to reimburse about $50 million, plus interest, of the EPA’s cleanup costs at the toxic McColl Superfund Site in California. The U.S. is not liable for the costs and they were incurred voluntarily.
