Toxic Fish

WASHINGTON (CN) - Cooking it won't take the poison out. Predatory fish caught near the Flower Garden Banks National Marine Sanctuary inthe northern Gulf of Mexico can contain ciguatoxin, from toxic algae, whichnot only can makea personsick, but can cause lasting neurological effects such as reversing feelings of hot and cold.

The Food and Drug Administration warns fish processors to avoid buying hogfish, grouper and certain snapper species captured within 10 miles of the sanctuary, and amberjack, barracuda and certain other pelagic species caught within 50 miles of the sanctuary.
