WASHINGTON (CN) - President Donald Trump said Friday he has answered questions from Special Counsel Robert Mueller but has not yet turned in those responses.
"My lawyers aren't working on it," Trump told reporters, insisting that he answered the special counsel’s questions on his own.
"I'm working on it,” Trump added, according to a pool report. “My lawyers don't write the answers.”
Since the firing of former FBI Director Muller Jim Comey in May 2017, Mueller has been probing Russia’s interference in the 2016 presidential election and whether the Trump campaign colluded in that effort.
Trump told reporters he has not yet turned in his answers. "I've been a bit busy,” he said.
The comments come a day after Trump launched a string of tweets that repeated his longstanding frustration with Mueller's investigation. Trump referred to the probe as "a total witch hunt,” run by "Bob Mueller and his gang of Democrat thugs."
On Friday, Trump insisted to reporters he is not "agitated" by Mueller's inquiry, though he maintained his position that it should never have happened.
"I imagine it's ending now, or from what I hear it's ending," Trump said, according to a pool report. "I'm sure we'll be just fine.”
