Too Many Wild Horses, Ranching Couple Says

PENDLETON, Ore. (CN) - A married couple who own a ranch in Eastern Oregon say the U.S. Forest Service is fostering conflicts by letting the herd on the Murderers Creek Wild Horse Territory more than double from its sustainable size of 100 head, mandated by the Malheur Land and Resource Management Plan.

Loren and Piper Stout say the USFS canceled a "planned horse gather last fall to bring the herd down to the mandated sustainable level."

The Stouts are represented in Federal Court by Scott Horngren of Portland.
